With a patent date of August 31, 1909 printed on the ball and the box, the offered Spalding Official National League baseball is closely matched to the 1909-1910 John Heydler baseballs. It contains beautiful period manufacturers stampings and black and faded red stitching. Still tightly wound and only showing a scuff abrasion on the east panel (where Horse Hide Cover Spalding No. 1 would have appeared), this early sphere resides in its original red cardboard box. While all four top flaps are present, creasing and cardboard tears keep the overall grade of the box in GD condition. Still, a turn-of-the-century Official National League ball, in its original box, is a find for any collector.
