During the twelve seasons that Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth played together, the dynamic duo wreaked havoc at the plate as the most powerful one-two batting combination in baseball history. Ruth’s sheer power and off-the-field exploits often overshadowed Gehrig’s solid and dependable performance, a dynamic reflected in the presented dual-signed ball. This green and red stitched Spalding Official League Special (patented Aug 31, 1909) features Ruth’s signature on the sweet spot (d.1948, “4”) and Gehrig’s autograph on the North panel (d.1941, “3”). Both ink signatures have been affected by age and spots of leather loss and soiling. The ball grades (“5”), though the manufacturer’s imprints and logo are generally not affected by the moderate soiling and wear present on other parts of the ball. This classic Yankee relic is accompanied by a full photo Letter of Authentication from JSA.
