Long before Jim Palmer became the stalwart ace for the Baltimore Orioles, the fresh-faced youth was a three-sport star for Scottsdale High in Arizona. This dated 1963 trophy was given to Palmer just months before the 17 year-old inked his first professional contract. The square-based wooden trophy measures approximately 11-1/2” in height and reveals moderate scratching on one of the side panels. A pair of gild-etched plates are affixed to both the body and base, with the etched inscription reading 1963 Scottsdale High School—Outstanding Baseball—Jim Palmer. The bottom of the trophy indicates the manufacturer as Paradise Trophy Center of Scottsdale. The trophy is crowned by a generic metallic batter and an accompanying detachable bat. Although this memento reveals multiple abrasions and light tarnish, it remains a unique keepsake once displayed by this Hall of Fame hurler.
