Offered is a group of seven Harper’s Weekly woodcuts from the 1860s through 1880s in stunning condition. These cleanly extracted relics depict baseball in its infancy and several pieces contain portraits of early Hall of Famers. These wood cuts include 1. “Baseball at Blackville” (EX-MT with writing) 2. “Athletics of Philadelphia and Atlantic Baseball Club” (NM) 3.“The First League Game of Baseball of the Season” with Ewing, Ward, Keefe and Welch (NM) 4. “A Double-Play – First League Game, New York Against Boston” 5. “Champion Baseball Players” with Radbourn, Ewing, Kelly, Ward and O’Rourke (EX-MT) 6. “International Base-Ball – The Boston Champions” with Spaulding, O’Rourke and Wright 7. “The Winning Run – How is it Umpire.” Also included is a 1866 page with small article on baseball in Brooklyn (NM), and a 1889 page with article on current state of baseball in New York (NM). These pieces are slightly detracted by normal paper aging.
