Description

Woodrow Wilson is noted by most historians as one of the best Presidents in United States history. He legacy will forever been etched in the chronicles of World War I but his presidency consisted of many other accomplishments. Offered is a beautiful Harris & Ewing portrait of Woodrow Wilson (d.1921) signed sharply on the lower right margin. The portrait measures 7-1/2 x 11 and exhibits a few minor blemishes on the image surface. The presidential script is nearly flawless, grading (9). Accompanying the portrait is the original autograph request letter signed by Wilson's secretary, Joseph Patrick Tumulty (d.1954). Also included in this grouping is a framed TLS from President Lyndon Baines Johnson (d.1973, 8). The letter was written to a friend of LBJ and is on U.S. Senate stationery, dated March 23, 1959. The framed measures 17 x 25 and includes the letter, placard and photograph of the President. The lot comes with an auction LOA from James Spence Authentications.
