In 1982, Michael Jack Schmidt was coming off his second National League MVP Award season and he posted solid numbers with a .280 average, 35 round-trippers and 87 runs batted in. Although he lead the league in walks, slugging and on base percentage, he could not wrestle the 1982 MVP from Dale Murphy. However, Schmidt's superlative play at the hot corner earned him his seventh straight Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Schmidt would win 10 Gold Gloves over his Hall of Fame career. Offered is the 1982 Rawlings Gold Glove Award presented to Mike Schmidt featuring a “golden” baseball mitt and two “golden” baseballs mounted on a wooden base. The base, measuring 18 x 7 has a bronze plate affixed to the front picturing Schmidt and reading, ”1982 Rawlings Gold Glove award, Presented to, Mike Schmidt, Honoring His Selection to The Sporting News National League All-Star Fielding Team.” The plaque is flanked by a pair of red Rawlings logos. Schmidt was more than a great power-hitting 3rd baseman, he was one of the greatest fielders at his position. The award is in spectacular condition with mild wear present but without notable flaws. This relic is easily one of the most important Gold Gloves ever offered to the public.
