The offered pairing of 1924 Goudey Gum Company stock certificates is of historic interest to pre-war baseball card enthusiasts, particularly devotees to the R designation. These approximately 13 1/4 x 8 1/4 cancelled certificates were issued to company founder Enos Goudey and treasurer Harold DeLong (namesake of the 1933 R333 DeLong). The one-hundred share sheet that was issued to DeLong is self-signed in four places on the front with a pair of additional endorsements on the reverse (including the adhered stock power form), along with an additional endorsment by Goudey, although a cancelled stamp appears through his name. The piece reveals a 3 tear that spans the lower left edge of the certificate stub. Also present is an additional one-hundred share sheet that was issued to Goudey and is self-signed in four places on the front (including once by DeLong) along with two additional instances on the reverse. These dated 11/29/24 certificates are accompanied by original tax stamps and cancellation marks. A one-of-a-kind duo that is ideal for the depression-era baseball card collector. This lot comes with a letter of authenticity from William Thompson, son of George Thompson, former owner of the Goudey Company until its closing in 1962; these items came directly from the Goudey Gum archives.
